I think that you are referring to a jump drive. They vary on price based on how much memory they have on them.

definitley a flash drive. a 40 gig one should cost around $50.
they do have a space, so don’t go overboard with the contents.

they’re called memory sticks or USB sticks or dongles (there are prob other names for them too but those are just some i can think of from the top of my head.)
you can get them from any pc store or ebay and i don’t know where you are but in the UK now they are very cheap.. the same price as a good magazine.

I think a standardized name will come out. I use the terms: Memory stick and Jump drive interchangeably.
I’m betting that memory stick or flash drive is what we’ll settle on. Hedge my bet - Flash Drive - it is flash memory. Its as non-volatile as we can make it cheap/affordable.
The reason I say this is that thumb sounds dumb. We will eventually wind up with non-volatile RAM. That’s what a memory stick is. Difference is - your computer will boot at the speed of electricity.
Power on - Up - Available - like a light bulb.
Its a flash drive - it has no moving parts.

it really depends on what you want.
i have various flash drives/USB sticks/thumb drives
they are all the same but go under various names, but the one i use the most has to be my external hard drive.
this is as it is called, a external hard drive which in some cases like mine needs its own power supply to run but can have a whopping amount of space available on them.
my external hard drive was £90 (about $130 dollars) and stores 500 GB on it (i have heard that recently it has come down in price to almost 50% off), i just simply backed up my entire computer on it and when my friends computer was on its way out i backed up hers too and then formatted it and then put all the files back, they are great to have around and great if your computer is filling up fast.
another way round it and is cost free is to send it over the network.
if you can get someone else computer and yours plugged into the same network (or on wireless) and enable both computers to let other people browse their public folder, then you can just drop your file onto their public folder on their machine, the only size limit is how much space they have available on their hard drive.

They are called as external drives. The cost varies from $5 all the way to thousands depending on what do you need and how the drive works.
For most common usage, a flash drive can be purchased for about $10 with capacity of 4GB.
4GB is good enough to store say one of the following
1. 10,000 page pdf (Adobe acrobat reader) document
2. 1000 mp3 songs
